At 21.5 weeks' gestation the great majority of fetuses are not viable. No mention is made of BP readings, platelet count, evidence of hemolysis etc. Triploidy is a cause of preeclampsia in the midtrimester, even prior to 20 weeks' gestation, but the ultraosund assessment would give you some "hints" (triploid fetuses do not appear "normal" on ultrasound). The "mirror" syndrome is usually found in patients whose fetuses have non-immune hydrops. This patients needs not be on magnesium sulfate but does need further follow-up in the hospital to rule out preeclampsia. PUBS or amnio could easily be done to rule out triploidy, if the US findings are suspicious. LSR

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
