I have a question. I was recently informed that the fribroid tumor diagnosed last July, possibly a pedunculated tumor, as it has a stem, (indicated after a ultra-sound,) which was a size of a grape, has grown to the size of a grapefruit. This was discovered after I went to my gynecologist because of continuous bleeding. He told me his discovery and then recommended that I have a hysterectomy. He performs abdominal ones only. He told me to get a second opinion. I was not prepared for this, as I thought he was going to inform me that I was going through peri-menopause. I am 45 years old. My question is, that while I am open to suggestions, I have a strong history of breast cancer in my family. My mother was diagnosed during post-menopause, age 53, my sister diagnosed, stage 1, pre-menopause, at age 40. She has no children. I am frightened to take homone replacement now, due to these reasons, but I am also afraid to keep my ovaries, due to the risk of ovarian cancer because of the breast cancer history. I am damned if I do, and damned if I don't. HELP!!!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
