Rick - We had one of these absolutely Red Herrings when I was in residency - although the patient was mid 30's with a TL. The final diagnosis was Hemorrhagic CL with false positive Qualitative hCG - as the Quantitative hCG remained <2.0. We sent samples of her serum off to the company, but as I recall (back in 1984/85...) there never was an answer as to why she had the false + qualitative hCG...
