Because of a patient with this very question, back in '93 (Zovirax), I wrote a letter to the company requesting any info they had on prolonged "suppressive" therapy. The response from the R&D division was that at that time, they had a group of patients that had been on continuous suppression for seven years without any untoward effects. Based on this unpublished communication, I have not hesitated in providing suppression for prolonged periods. I do agree with Joe completely though regarding taking a honeymoon from the med occasionally to see if the patient continues to get recurrences... Lynn
