This has been tried around the world with mixed results for at least 30 years that I am aware of. When I saw the booth at the meeting, I just said"not again" and walked on by without stopping. Too bad I missed a chance to meet Dr. Lippes. Dan

I learned about intrauterine placement of Quinicrine sulfate for sterilization of women as an office procedure while at ACOG. Dr. Jack Lippes was at the booth with the information. It sounds like an ideal option. No anesthesia needed. 2 visits to insert the Qunacrine into the uterus during the follicular phase of 2 menstrual cycles. This results in a scarring of the tubes. The amount of Quinacrine used is 252mg X 2 - for a total of 504mg.

Has anyone (from overseas) done these? Is anyone from the List going to be part of US studies? It would be awesome to be able to offer this to American women.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
