Efrain:

You keep on mentioning your cases of uterine rupture in patients who received misoprostol. However, you have not been able to give me precise details or send me the records (with the patient's name and unit # made unindentifiable). I have been fortunate enough to have reviewed several cases of uterine rupture in patients who received misoprostol at other institutions. In each and every case, the medication was used incorrectly. I have also reviewed and have seen, as most of you have also seen, uterine ruptures which occurred spontaneously, after PGE2 administration, or oxytocin infusion (in patients with or without prior uterine surgery). Anyone who has had a patient with a ruptured uterus (unscarred) definitely due to the administration of misoprostol should refrain from its further use until they learn how to administer it properly (MY PERSONAL OPINION !)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
