Antibiotic prophilaxis with Pereyra BNSFrom: Mario Colombo, MD (emmecol@tin.it)Sun May 28 01:39:52 2000
Dear listmembers, Is there someone of you still performing the Pereyra bladder neck suspension in patients with urogenital prolapse? I would like to know what type of antibiotic prophilaxis do you use in these patients. We have always administered three doses of cefazolin (the first 30 minutes before surgery and the remaining two doses every eight hours) without relevant infectious problems. However, I believe that a single preoperative dose should be enough and I am going to change that for a trial period. Thank you.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
