US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DELAYS COLLECTIVE NEGOTIATION VOTE

After having promised bill sponsor Tom Campbell (R-CA) a vote on his “Quality Health Care Coalition Act of 1999” bill on Thursday, May 25th, the House Republican Leadership pulled the bill from consideration prior to the Memorial Day Recess. This vital legislation, H.R. 1304, would allow independently practicing physicians to come together to negotiate patient protections and other contract terms with monolithic insurers and HMOs. Currently, 19 of New York’s 31 House Members are co-sponsors of this bill. Overall, the bill has 225 cosponsors, more than the 218 votes needed to pass the bill. The organized medical community is extremely disappointed that this popular and much needed legislation has been pulled from consideration yet again. All physicians are urged to contact their Representative to request an immediate vote on H.R. 1304 with no amendments. Physicians should log on to http://www.ama-assn.org/grassroots or call the AMA’s grassroots hotline at 1-800-833-6354 to reach their Representative and make their views known.

seems like time for action.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
