Re: RhogamFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (jbulley@cheshire.net)Sun Apr 30 20:23:22 2000
I don't do OB anymore, but tried to skirt this issue when I did Ob (1985-1993). I would be indirect and say until we have the BABY'S blood type (after birth) - the best recommendation I have is to give the RhoGam (generic is OK as far as I know). If they ask further, I would mention that there are various subdivisions of the Rh factor (ok, ok, I know that RhoGam is for the D antigen...)... blah, blah, blah. If they insist - I suggest a current typing of the 'dad' and let the patient, couple make the decision. I have had one patient who had been in the military and our blood bank typed her different from the military! So, it got done again - with verification from Red Cross or another Blood bank lab (I forget) - and our lab was right. So ... This is not one I trust to someone carrying a card and showing it to me that 'dad' is Rh (-)...

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
