Bob

I have NO Red book and do not need to sign myself comrade.

I have been aware of the psychology of abuse for a long time and have assisted many women in seeing that they do have an option and can make the step to move out.

Your attitude of knowing what is best and asserting that every bit of behavior of humans can always be according to rational thinking is off the mark.

In case you haven't noticed - although we do have this big brain and under ideal circumstances of upbringing etc we CAN rationally bypass much emotional based thinking, the reality of being human is our frailty both as individuals and as nations to make "bad" choices and get into "bad" situations.

LOGICALLY - yes abusive situations follow certain patterns that could/should be indentifiable and the victim-to-be should/could remove her/himself.

The REALITY - however - is that those insidious patterns of aberrant (if you will...) human behavior get into vicious circles and SHIT happens and as physicians / medical care givers - we need to be able to observe and assist the victim in breaking the pattern. Because if we don't we are allowing our patient to be in harm's way, among other issues.

This is not a question of what appears to be total logic (don't marry that person, get ou, don't have sex, get a termination or give the baby away) - it is a question of mucked up human psychology and CAN each of us learn to reconize the signs in our patients that they are living in these situations and need help making changes.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
