M.S. Morphine is part of the treatment for Pulmonary edema and that makes a lot of sense. Keep it on your card and use it. Morphine and oxygen are perhasps the only ones that are still thought to be good.

Morphine Oxygen Sit up Tourniquets

Digitalis Aminophylline Mercurial Diuretics Phlebotomy

All the old farts like me will remember the Most Damp mnemonic for treatment of Pulmonary edema.

Funny, I read it that way initially, too. It is MSO4....morphine. I really don't know. I don't know where I got the protocol from (I think it was a Grand Rounds during residency). I have been unable to locate the original notes from my files. My thought was that it was for the purpose of intubation without general anesthesia available. Of course it wasn't necessary in this case.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
