Re: Cytotec, cervical ripeningFrom: D. Ashley Hill, MD (dahmd@mpinet.net)Sat Apr 8 21:58:01 2000
There were a couple of abstracts involving outpatient cytotec for term pregnancies in the Gray journal a few months ago, but I cannot recall which issue, nor can I remember the findings. It was the issue full of abstracts for one of the society meetings. We currently would not use outpatient misoprostol in term pregnancy outside of a formal research protocol. We have seen too many precipitous deliveries, rapid labors in general, and significant contractions developing soon after misoprostol administration to feel confident of outpatient use. Further, due to the increasing reports of uterine rupture when given to women who have a prior cesarean, we no longer use misoprostol in such patients. Have a good weekend. Ashley

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
