Re: The pillFrom: ainsron@msn.comThu Apr 6 20:20:59 2000
According to Speroff: " Recent studies have questioned whether missing pills has any impact on contraception. One study demonstrated that skipping 4 consecutive pills at varying times in the cycle did not result in ovulation. Studies in which women deliberately lengthen their pill free interval up to 11 days have failed to show signs of ovulation. So far there is no evidence that moving to lower doses has had an impact on the margin of error. However, the studies have involved small numbers of women and given the large individual variation, it still is possible that some women might be at risk with a small increase in the pill-free interval. The current recommendations may well be proven to be too conservative, and a woman's chance of getting pregnant with missing pills is nearly zero." > >It might sound a little bit stupid, but sorry for asking that. > >One of my residents asked me today. >"Why do the patients can get pregnant with low-dose pill, if they miss one day, and not during the 7 days interval? Wouldn't be better to stop taking the pill at all, if one was missed, instead of taking 2?" > >I would like to hear your explanations. > >Thank you > >Ricardo Savaris >Porto Alegre - RS >Brazil > >"The things you learn after you know everything are the important ones" This is none of them :)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
