Re: GYN: HPV TestingFrom: Myer S. Bornstein, MD, CPE, FACOG (mborn@massmed.org)Sun Mar 26 18:21:12 2000
I went to a meeting this weekend on Innovations in the Diagnosis and treatment of HPV, (slightly biased put on by 3M and Digene) However, the message made sense. One HPV and its continuance is probably immunity related and that people in some impairment of their immune response become chronic HPV carriers and have more of a chance of progressing to CIN and Cervical CA. They are now in trial with Aldora intra-vaginally to see if it can release cytokines and interferon to resolve the virus and the CIN. The algorithm for HPV testing for the triage of ACSUS test results is: ASCUS Pap test results do HPV test, if negative for High-Risk types return to routine screening, if positive colposcopy and treatment if indicated. However, those people need to be followed very closely since they will develop HGSIL within 3-5 years. Myer

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
