Throw out the archic term Stein-Leventhal and call it Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome(PCOS). In my understanding there are variants which do not even have polycystic ovaries. Dan

Colleagues, Please help me to resolve this question. As a sonologist I work in close cooperation with referring gynecologists. Some of them disagree with my statement in sono resume on PCOD when I conclude: the polycystic ovaries structurally correspond to those in Stein-Leventhal syndrome.

<No way to mention Stein-Leventhal> - they would argue - <those with this disease are infertile whereas our patients have children>. As I see it. Stein- Leventhal is just a variant of a vast range of hormonal and other abnormalities. The fact that women with this diagnose did have children means the infertility issue is not final and forever. Thus, my point of view: I must be right to deduce on Stein-Leventhal if there were to be infertility or not. What would you say? Anatoli Garkusha, MD, sonologist. Kiev, Ukraine.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
