I thank the people who answered the survey I posted. I would appreciate any additional replies. I only received six answers and need more for some significance.

So, please help

Survey Form for New Medical Device for Preterm Labor (PTL)

Survey:

1. If a new device were available that would differentiate between Braxton-Hicks and true PTL contractions, would you use it?

yes if economically feasible (i.e. would not cost the patient in excess)

2. If you would use it, would it change your management of PTL? If no, please indicate reason(s)

It would certainly help in management decisions if I knew what was real and what was "Memorex"

3. If the device indicated Braxton-Hicks contractions, would you withhold tocolytics? If no, please indicate reason(s)

I tend not to use tolytics in the absence of cervical change unless the contractions are fairly regular in frequency and intensity (pretty nebulous without internal monitoring but I hope you know what I mean)

4. Are you satisfied with the presently available tocolytics?

Not always, but what else is there to use?

5. Have you ever withheld tocolytics due to potential side effects?

on rare occasions but yes

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
