Re: CNP salariesFrom: Marie Harkins&Bill King (mhbk@lightlink.com)Thu Mar 23 18:51:03 2000
I am a NP and work with a solo practice Ob-Gyn. For Ob patients, I do all of the initial prenatal physicals, see the low risk patients every other visit and do all postpartum visits and follow-up. In addition, I do the preop physicals and teaching and assist in routine surgical cases (I have certification as an RNFA). I also help with weekend call and hospital rounds. I am paid a salary and am scheduled to work 3 days/week. During busy times I put in more hours as needed and take off if things are quiet. I see 15-20 patients a day and usually work alone (i.e. no nurse to set up patients and do paperwork). If I have a nurse, I can see many more patients. The physician that I work with relies on me to do a lot of teaching and support that is often necessary (especially for OB patients). This frees him up to see a greater volume of patients or just have some precious time off. I am not sure if you can put a cost value on many these things. In my opinion it is a great system as we function as a team and provide consistant care for our patients. Marie Harkins, MS, CS-FNP Ithaca, NY

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
