This past week, while out of town, an Ob patient who had a genetic amnio directly called the genetics lab, and identified herself as a practice employee looking for her results. The lab smelled this as wrong (probably because she called earlier than the result would be available, and because this lab faxes them religiously when ready), and notified our office. The patient apparently tried a couple of days later, too. Well, the results got faxed to my office, and the patient knows them (all is normal). I plan to discuss this directly with the patient ASAP, as it has made us all rather uncomfortable. Any thoughts? Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
