Collaboration by Integration of PracticesFrom: Geffrey Klein, MD (gklein@icsi.net)Sun Feb 27 19:06:28 2000
I went to the ACOG conference this week at Ceasar's Palace and it got me thinking about collaborative integration. Some of the lectures discussed methods for doctors to improve economies of scale and negotiatinng power. All of the different types of collaboration were addressed such as, PHO's, PPM's, IPA's, etc. However, the message that was clear was that the best way was integration of practices. They gave an example of a large group of docs in Tampa and how initially there was some hardship. However, with time they were able to negotiate better reimbursement from managed care. After I got home today, I got my Medical Economics from my overstuffed mailbox. The cover story was on the same thing done by a Connecticut group. Anyone have experience with this? Any advice on how to proceed on the same path in my market? Thanks..

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
