We have had at least two uncomplicated, successful term pregnancies one of which was a twin pregnancy. The French have reported in various meetings @ 14. McLucas and Goodwin have had 7 or 8. George Fuerdi in Milwaukee has told me of several successful pregnancies one of which was twins. I am unaware of any complications related to UAE having been reported. The current problem is that most of this information is reported in papers delivered at meeting or by word of mouth. There is a need to establish a registry of pregnancies post UAE and more importantly a prospective randomized study. I personally believe that UAE is often a better option for women who wish to conceive than myomectomy since it is safer and results in less risk of adhesions. In addition there should be no more risk of uterine rupture in pregnancy after UAE than in any of the millions of woman who become pregnant with a degenerated fibroid. The risk of placental insufficiency or fetal growth retardation is not likely since the blood flow through the uterus returns to normal from collateral circulation within hours or days after UAE. Fertility with normal pregnancy outcome has been frequently reported after surgical ligation of the uterine arteries even with concomitant ovarian artery ligation since the 1950's. Patients should nevertheless be advised on the limited data currently available to confirm the above observations and opinions.

MIckey Hutchens has the largest experience in the US (possibly world). He occasionally posts here. Mickey are you there?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
