Re: When is it time to verify the HPV type? From: Betsy Hyde (elishyde@connix.com)Thu Jan 20 19:28:46 2000
if I have a woman w/ first-time ASCUS, I am having her return in 3-4 months for a repeat Pap. At that time I do a Thin Prep and send the sample off for Pap and HPV DNA typing. If the sample comes back negative for HPV DNA, or for the low-virulence DNAs, I'm likely just to repeat the pap if it comes back ASCUS again. However, if it is one of the HPV DNAs with greater risk for dysplasia, I will refer for colpo.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
