>Hello, I just wanted to respond to your posting. I too live in Canada, Toronto to be exact. I currently work on a Combined Care unit and love it very much. Our unit easy fairly brand new, 1 year and things are moving just fine. We have 18 gyn beds, 20 post-partum beds, NICU, 12 LDR room, 5 OBS triage beds 1 OR and 1 Resus/Circ room. Prior to the new unit opening, mothers had to be taken to the OR flor for their C-sections!! Now everything is all in one place. Currently the RN's are not cross-trained, however that is slowly changin. Our Nurse Manager has offered cross-training to those whom are interested. One drawback that I see is that when things get busy down in L&D, some nurses from the post-partum area complain when we get an admission from L&D. Not to sure what the big deal is, after all, we do get paid to take care of moms' and babes'. If you have any further questions please get back to me.
