Our facility is considering combining our LDR and Postpartum/Antepartum Units. At present they are on seperate floors. This would allow us to have LDRP rooms where the family can stay with the patient. We are not sure if we will have an OR on the unit. I would like to hear from other nurses going through this same process or that already work in Single Room Maternity Care units. What are the benefits? Drawbacks. Any suggestions? What about cross training? We have about 1100 births per year and are about 500 miles away from a tertiary care center so we have a fair bit of high risk. I forgot to mention we are in Canada.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
