Good question! I am nurse in rural area, L&D was my calling too. It is tough to say what is "standard" as we all are different, and have different experiences. A lot of it has to do with YOUR comfort. For me, I began L&D right of school as RNA (this was 13 years ago) 6 weeks after I started down there I got my License (that was before you tested on copmuter and had to wait for results) I was on my own from there on out. Talk to your supervisor, go to as much inservice as you can. It may be awhile before you are totally comfortable with things like fetal monitoring. Good Luck!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
