Yeast infection...

I would like to know if I can treat what I think is a yeast infection w/o seeing a doctor? Its a bad circumstance, I really do not have a gyno where I am and I do not want to go through my mother as she worries too much about me. (I am a college student)...I recently became sexually active and have aquired symptoms of itching and of a cottage cheese like discharge. I do not think it is a STD b/c I am monogamous w/ my boy friend and he has been tested. Even if he has been cheating (doubtful) we use a condom every time.

Also, I just got over a UTI, but my urine still smells funny. Do I have another one? It is not cloudy and I don't have the pain that I did w/ the previous one, but I'm peeing frequently.

If it is not a yeast infection and I treat it, will it be harmful? If it does not go away after an over the counter treatment, I will have it looked at.

If it would be okay to treat it as a yeast infection, what product should I use (ie, days/brand name) I am unconcerned about the time it would take for a cure, and more concerned with a thorough treatment.

Thank you for your help!
