INFECTION AFTER LAPAROSCOPYFrom: Rajni (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Nov 1999 20:18:47 -0600 (CST)
I underwent laparoscopy in April 1999 for removal of dermoid cyst in the right ovary. While removing the cyst the ovary had to be sacrificed. The cyst was removed using a bag thru the umblicus. After a week or so there was swelling in the incision made below the navel and there was some oozing.Contacted the gynae and he said that we need not worry. In spite of the oozing continuing for a couple of months the doctor asked us not to worry. In July I developed temperature and severe pain and the swelling burst open with a puss flowing out.I was immediatly put on anti biotics by another gynae.Since the flow/swelling did not stop she recommended a exploration by a surgeon. The sergeon cut open the area and let the pus flow out. This was done in August. There was no pus outflow for sometime but it started again after a couple of weeks.A second exploration was done in september and a lot of granules was removed. On a sonography it reveals that there fluid collection on the muscular plane with two sinus tracts supra and infra umblicus. We have approached a new surgeon who says that he needs to do a complete surgical procedure and remove the umblicus and a lot of tissue sorrounding it.We are worried as whether this procedure would succeed. Is there a way to detect foreign bodies without an operation.Pls advise me on a way to get out of this 7 month trauma.
