Lydia,

I read your message and I wanted to share with you an experience I had. I am not a doctor, but I hope my experience could enlighten you about your condition. I was 23 years old when I got an exploratory laparotomy to remove a huge 4 pound fibroid coming out from the surface (on the right) of my uterus. The diagnose was not clear prior to surgery because the tests couldn't show what it really was, if a fibroid or a ovarian cyst. Because it was leaning towards the right, doctors thought it was most likely a cyst. The only thing that was telling them it could have been a fibroid was that it was perfectly movable, and it wasn't giving me any pain. My periods were perfect, no cramps, ovary pain or anything. The only thing I was feeling very tired, and I had a 10.8 hemoglobine reading. That was just about the borderline. I needed to get stronger before the surgery not to need any transfusion. I started taking from the counter iron supplies (Geritol was the best), and eat the unbelievable to get up to an 11.5 count (spinash, cow liver, green peas, etc.) I went through surgery and the outcome was the fibroid, coming out of the uterus, which just needed to be cut off. The doctors didn't need to touch my reproductive organs. They were perfectly fine! I feel this was just a miracle, a gift from God. I'll never forget this, and I just wanted to tell you that if it wasn't for the surgery, I probably wouldn't have been here today writting you this. I was terrible scared to go through such surgery being so young, being healthy all my life and having the sense of inmortality that youngsters think they have. I am 27 now, and I am very thankful that I had done it. I had God, and my family, especially my mom by my side to help me get through this. I hope you can overcome this, and one thing I learned is that one is the only person who can overcome the fears. Good luck and truely wish you everything goes well.
