shannon,

Not only is it possible, it is quite common. This has been proven with early ultrasound. Prior to vaginal probe ultrasounds, early pregnancies could not be viewed clearly. Now, since ultrasound has gotten more high tech, you can see very early pregnancies. Multiple pregnancies that result in the loss of one (or more, depending on the number) embryo(s) is common. 2 years ago I was pregnant with twins at my 5 1/2 week ultrasound, at 8 weeks one of the twins was gone. The doctor termed it a "vanishing twin". I was not aware of the loss. The remaining baby grew and developed normally into a very healthy baby boy. I hope this answers your question clearly.
