Allergy to Vaginal ContraceptivesFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 5 Nov 1999 08:01:37 -0600 (CST)
For years, I used diaphrams, and could never completely get rid of the secretions created by the spermicide (often nonoxynol-9). My gynecologist diagnosed the problem as allergy to the rubber of the diaphram, and I stopped using it. About three weeks ago, however, I inserted a Koromex contraceptive suppository (with nonoxynol-9), and got the same unpleasant symptoms of excessive, foul secretions. I douched with Massengil medicated douches, which eliminated the odor, but not the secretions. It seems I am allergic to nonoxynol-9, so what are my alternatives? Would sponges give the same problem? I refuse to take the pill. Also, should I have my gynecologist thoroughly clean my vagina? Thank you.
