Re: Anyone using natural progesterone after hysterectomyFrom: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Oct 1999 15:15:52 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Camille, I have had a TAH/BSO. I still have part of my ovary left, not intentional. I still cycle because of this, however I am perimenopausal. I am currently taking Prometrium to try and stop my ovarian remnant from producing cysts and ovulating because I have endometriosis. Prometrium is used in post-menopausal women. It has to be prescribed by an M.D. Prometrium is a natural progestrone derived from yams. I have been on it now for approximately 5-6 weeks. I had to up my dose from 100 mg to 200 mg/night. My moods seem a little better. I still have hot flashes/heat intolerance at times. Are you post-menopausal? If so, that would be very surprising. Why did you have the hyst and ovary removed, if you don't mind me asking? It can take a while for the remaining ovary to kick back in and function normally, but a year seems like a long time. How is your sleeping pattern. If you are having problems with that, it will certainly add to you being tired. Prometrium can cause drowsiness, so it helps me sleep better. Are you having any problem with depression? That too can contribute to fatigue. With just a small part of my ovary left, it is functioning like a whole one. I still feel fatigue. Was your surgery complicated? My hyst was complicated with a severe hemorrhage and it took me over a year to recover. A year and a half year after that surgery, I had my remaining ovary removed due to the endo. I went through menopause, but then 3-4 months later I was ovualating again. Then, less than a year later I had mono. So my situation is probably different from you regarding fatigue. I know that many women do complain about fatigue long after a hyst, everybody is different. I hope this info helps. Best wishes,
-- D.N.
