What relation does my thyroid have with getting pregnant?

I have had surgery to remove the right lobe and almost all of the left lobe including the isthmus of my thyroid. I had the surgery not because I had thyroid problems. I had it because a nodule (that proved to be non-cancerous) had developed on the isthmus of my thyroid. When a biopsy was taken they found A typical cells, so both Dr.'s that I saw seemed to think surgery was the only option. I have been trying to get pregnant for almost a year now and nothing. I have read that the thyroid does produce hormones related to pregnancy. Should I worry? Is there some test I could take to see if my thyroid is producing hormones properly?
