Re: Does anybody know anything about the Vaginal Estrogen RingFrom: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 31 Aug 1999 12:03:36 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Camille, I had an Estring inserted about 2 months ago because of vaginal dryness and leaking urine. I have had a total hyst and both ovaries removed, however have a remaining ovarian remnant. Estring is a ring (about the size of a diaphragm) made of some type of polymer material embedded with estrogen. A small amount of estrogen is released on a constant basis to the local tissues. It is to help with vaginal dryness and urinary incontinence. It is not supposed to be absorbed systemically. I have endometriosis and I had to removed it because the estrogen being released in this area was causing me pain. Once it is inserted you do not feel it. It can become dislodged during a bowel movement, not that it would fall out. You might have to push it back up if it is uncomfortable. It can also be removed during intercourse, if you want. It does not have to be. Only if it is in the way. Then it can be rinsed off and reinserted. If the the endo had not acted up, I would have kept it in because it did seem to help with the vaginal dryness and the leakage of urine. Best of luck to you.
