Not really. The chances of getting pregnant in any one month are not as high as you might think. But If you haven't had a gyn exam in the last year, I recommend that you get one now, including preconception couseling and testing. Since you're in good health, if you don't get pregnant within 12 months, you should consult with a gynecologist.

The exact timing of the pain (sometimes called mittelschmertz) that seems associated with ovulation differs for different women. Ovulation might account for your pain, but, as your note hints, it's unlikely that the actual release of the egg occurs only one week before your period. But, still, the pain might occur that late. The gyn exam might allay some of your concerns. Also, I highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler for a good explanation of how to monitor your signs of ovulation, and how to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Hope it happens soon!
