Re: submucosal fibroid questionFrom: Penny (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Aug 1999 20:45:18 -0100
Donna, In answer to your question, can the 4mm submucosal fibroid be removed with hysteroscopy? The answer is yes. The surgery takes about 1 hour. You can be awake through the procedure if you want. I had this done in Oct. 98, on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. I had two normal periods after that. (Two submucosal fibroids were removed. A third was too large and bled too much for removal by hysterscope.) By Feb.99 my menstrual flow was out of control. I then went on Lupron Depot injections for three months. The worst part were the hot flashes. It did have the desired effect of reducing the overall size of my uterus and the too numerous to count fibroids. I am now on BCP and feel good. My weight gain through all of this has been 19 pounds.:( (I am very active. I walk every day at least 2-3 miles as well as biking and swimming.) I am trying to avoid a hysterectomy. I have a great gynecologist, whom explains everything to me. I am a Registered Sonographer and have the luxury of having a scan whenever my symptoms warrant it. My advice to you is to talk with your doctor about options, and read whatever literature he/she gives to you on the subject. Good luck! If not, can it be removed by laperoscopicaly even though it's not protruding into the outside wall. Also is Lupron always given before a myomectomy of this type? I really would like to avoid this medication. Thanks Donna
