Those stories are very widespread, but women appear to become pregnant at the same rate whether they used pills or not. About 15% of women will have difficulty getting pregnant (one third due to a female problem, one third due to a male problem, and one third due to a combination of the two). After using birth control for many years, about the same number will have difficulty getting pregnant. Pills don't seem to be a factor.
