hysterectomy?From: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 7 Aug 1999 17:21:45 EDT
A hysterectomy may not be necessary. You may want to look around for a doctor in your area who does myomectomy or cutting out the fibroid tumour(s). The other procedure available is embolization, they cut off the blood supply to the fibroid and it then shrinks and the symptoms such as excessive bleeding stop. Here are some really good articles to help you understand these procedures. Uterine fibroids: http://fibroid.org/ www.endohelp.com/fibroids.htm www.obgyn.net/wome n/articles/fibroids_dah.htm www .fibroids.net/http://www.gynalternatives.com/fibroids.htm www.obgyn.net/AH/a rticles/fibroids/page_5.htm If a hysterectomy is what you choose, then here are some excellent resources for support and education: Hystersisters Online (even has a section on post surgery) www.hystersisters.org/ HERS www.dca.net/hers/ OBGYN.net. www.obgyn.net/ah/ah.htm Hysterectomy Alaternatives www.repmed.com/ Surgical/Medical Menopause http://ww w.metlife.com/Lifeadvice/Health/Docs/menopause8.html http://www.obgyn.net/meno/link s/prem.htm Hope this helps Laura
