Variable Menstrual CyclesFrom: esther (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Jul 1999 15:19:12 -0500 (CDT)
I am 42. I have always had short (24-25 day) cycles. Over the past year they have been ranging more like 21-24 days, but currently it is day 32 and no period yet. (I did take a home preg. test, negative, just in case the 2 birth control methods my husband and I use together failed...) I understand that this type of variability is considered normal for perimenopausal women (I had previously asked my gyn about the shortening of cycles.) I have always been extrememly regular, until now. So do we just live with this (I take several medications and I do not want to get pregnant due to the risk to the baby from the meds I take...) so I can see how longer cycles with no predictiability would be very anxiety-provoking for me. Do I go to my doctor and ask to be put on the pill?
