Uterine fibroid & fertility - myomectomy or embolization?From: Niels (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Jul 1999 12:48:03 -0400
Dear Joumana, I'd saved your post, and just reread it today. I am going through something similar to you. I have a 10cm fibroid, and am facing the difficult decision of whether to have just the fibroid removed, or to have the fibroid and uterus removed. My situation is that I am in extreme pain. I have very bad cramping two weeks out of the month, and a constant pressure feeling. I wanted to ask you, if you don't mind, have you seen any of the doctors you mentioned in your post? I am going to Brigham & Women's in the next few weeks. I also wanted to ask you if you have any pain with your fibroid? Some doctors have said that what is being called a fibroid in my case may actually be an adenomyoma, which is like endometriosis embedded in the uterus. I am told they can't always tell the difference between a fibroid and an adenomyoma on films. If it is an adenomyoma (which they can't tell until they biopsy the uterus), I would eventually have to have the uterus removed. So, this is a very difficult and complicated decision for me. I hope you're doing well, and I'll look forward to hearing from you soon. I'll be sure and write back once I hear from you. Take care. Best, Susan in CT
