ilioinguinal nerve entrapmentFrom: Christine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 29 Jun 1999 08:22:18 -0500 (CDT)
I just read the article written by Dr. Perloe concerning entrapment of the ilioinguinal nerve in scar tissue causing right lower abdominal pain. I have had pain in this area for 2 years now and one by one, other conditions are being ruled out. After starting a step aerobics program I noticed a significant increase in pain, including severe attacks in the middle of the night, which were alleviated by changing position or getting up and walking around. A recent MRI has ruled out any disc or similar problem. I had relief of the pain after both laparoscopies in 1998 for 3-4 months. I have a horizontal hysterectomy scar from 1986. It would make sense to me that a problem like this could be aggravated by exercise and perhaps helped by the expansion of the abdomen during the laparoscopy. Could entrapment of this nerve also refer pain to the hip and lower back? I also had adhesions which were lysed during both laparoscopies but I am wondering if they would cause such a variation in pain. Would pain mapping help in a situation such as this? I have an appointment with my pcp today to discuss what to do next but I would appreciate a comment from one of the doctors. Thank you. Chris Smith
