&& Hi there - just want to drop you a note. I also had gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy (age 32 then). It was diagnosed at 31 weeks. I'm surprised you weren't checked then too b/c it's normal procedure these days to check the glucose women during the beginning of the third trimester - seems the imbalance shows up more then. Also - you can buy a glucometer and test strips (make sure you get some instruction perhaps from your doctor) to keep an eye on things as well. After I was diagnosed, I went to the hospital for a day/night and they monitored me on the special diet to make sure I responded to it. I did. I kept my levels down to below 120, the hinge rate. I still had my baby at 40 weeks via induction and the baby was over 9 pounds. NO hypoglycermia though.

>(2) If I did have gestational diabetes during my first pregancy, whatbare the odds that I will develop this condition in my second pregnancy?
>
&& High. I watched what I ate the entire time, and although my tests this time showed now problem, I made sure I carefully watched my food intake especially during the third trimester..and used the glucometer faithfully.

>(3) If I have an increased risk, is there anything I can do prior to conception to decrease the risk in my second pregancy?

&& Prior? No, don't think so. DUring seems to be the key.

Best wishes to you Elizabeth
