I really don't think weaning cold turkey is the best route -- sore nipples and engorged breasts can lead to bad mastitis, even an abscess, quicker than anything. If you truly can't tolerate nursing, is pumping or hand expressing any easier on you? Are you at all interested in the possibility of doing mixed feedings later, after you heal up? I ask because I know one woman who had latch problems with her son and wished later that she had known it was possible to go back. If that's not for you, ignore. I assume you've been through all the usual consultations about thrush and so forth? I've been just about where you are -- six weeks was my original goal for breastfeeding my twins. I'm thankful to say that my pains had gotten somewhat better by then and I was able to continue. If they hadn't I would have been weaning too.
