Weaning & Engorgement--What to do??

Due to excruciating pain while nursing, I started weaning my 5 week old daughter cold-turkey about 30 hours ago, and my breaasts are extremely tender--as I expected. Is there anything I can do to limit the tenderness? I realize I shouldn't express anything. I have started birth control pills, hoping they will help. Any other ideas?
