General confusion

HI! I will try my best to write this in a way that makes sense.

I had been on the pill since the birth of my son in early 95. Last year I stopped having periods while taking the pill. So, I stopped taking the pill. Still no period. I've been told (with no testing, is this normal?) by my new Ob/Gyn that I have polycystic ovaries. He suggested I take the pill again to help with some of the symptoms (excessive facial hair, acne, etc.) and I agreed. He gave me Ortho Novum 777. The pill I took for years was Triphasil 28. Now, after my first pack of 777, I got a period. This is great since I know it's not good to go without a bleed for a long time. My question is this...Did I ovulate? My husband thinks I did, but I dont. My understanding of the bcp is that it TRICKS your body into thinking its pregnant and therefore you dont ovulate. Who is right? See, he is thinking that we don't/won't have any fertility problems now cuz (to him!) I ovulated. But I dont think so....I think it was just a different bcp that made the difference and made my period come.

PLEASE!!!! I am just dying to tell him he is wrong! LOL! Someone give me some info!

Thanks!
