Re: fibrocystic breast disease X 17 yearsFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 31 Jan 1999 23:10:39 EST
Angie: It is difficult to tell exactly what you have "both breasts almost filled up with fibrocystic stuff!" If you have the usual 'bumpy boobs' that women get, the breast tissue itself has many small, nodular areas which are commonly tender to touch. They are usually more tender pre menstrual. I am wondering what those "lump in each breast" at age 8 yrs. This sounds like normal development to me. (Maybe slightly younger thelarche than the average girl, but normal). Important risk factors for you = do you have any female relatives who have had breast cancer. Some forms of this disease are genetically transmitted. If you desire mammogram --> get it! Breast cancer occurs with a slight increased incidence in women who have 'bumpy boobs'. (The reason I use this term is to diffuse the fear many women have concerning 'lumps' in their breasts). Self or doctor examination is very difficult to do because of these lumps. The best way to do these exams is on a REGULAR basis just AFTER your period every month. By doing this REGULARLY you will find any new lumps more easily. One of the worst things for fibrocystic breasts is CAFFEINE. No coffee, tea, chocolate, Soy Sauce, medicine with caffeine in it. Read labels and stay away from it. caffeine causes these cysts to grow and hurt. ============================================= *Note: Opinions expressed here are for educational purposes only.
