Re: Trying to help a friendFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 31 Jan 1999 10:05:23 EST
Mike: The problem of no menses (Amenorrhea) is a fairly common problem. Most of the time it is NOT SERIOUS and it can be fixed. Tell your female friend to NOT worry until she finds out what is askew. It can probably be fixed. Until she sees the specialist, use the 'George Worry Technique." It makes worrying more efficient and gives one a lot more free time to do other things. The technique was devised after years of research into time management and studies of brain dynamics. (Real time glucose uptake nuclear imaging the a CAT scan.) How does she do it, you ask? Well, -- she reserves some time each day when no one will interrupt her. (Phone off the hook) Start with about 10 - 15 minutes reserved. After a week or so she will get more efficient at worrying then the time can be shortened. During the allotted time, she is to do nothing but WORRY about the amenorrhea problem. She MUST WORRY with all of her might and when she finishes she is to write into a log the following day recording one of two outcomes. 1) The worrying changed the course of the events! or 2) The worrying DID NOT change the course of the events. She will soon gain insight and wisdom. Perhaps then she will be motivated to see the specialist -- which is THE THING TO DO. I imagine her new doctor will be able to give her a pill or a shot and get her to bleeding like every other woman. THIS METHOD IS OF GREAT VALUE TO POINT OUT THE FACT THAT WORRY DOES NO GOOD -- IN FACT IT MAY CAUSE AMENORRHEA! Good Luck. Clinical aphorism: THE FEMALE OF THE SPECIES DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE MENSES TO BE HEALTHY! ============================================= *Note: Opinions expressed here are for educational purposes only.
