Hi Christine, I am the one who wrote the very long answer to Lisa's question on blood type genetics, and I certainly didn't do it expecting a reply, and I don't feel bad that no post was made in response (except a very useful practical comment by another reader!)

I figure that it goes without saying that people appreciate any time anyone puts into answering their questions. I also figure that when people have questions or health problems, they have other things on their mind. Should I feel bad that when I had questions about my health that I didn't respond individually to each answer? I certainly said a thank you the next time I posted, but if every answer generates a thank you there will be a lot of low-information noise on this forum.

My theory is that the forum works because we all give and we all receive. I got a lot of help here before my surgery and I am still hanging around because I figure I can give something back by participating. The Doctors and other medical professionals give a lot and don't seem to get a lot back--except maybe they get to help folks, which is probably why they are in medicine to begin with.

It would be sad if people stopped posting because of some misperception that they aren't getting anything in return.

For the record, I'm grateful to all the regulars and drop-ins, doctors and patients, who make this such a helpful, supportive environment. :-)
