Re: What is wrong?From: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 28 Jan 1999 11:15:58 EST
Emotion (stress) about not getting pregnant can effect the Hypothalmus which affects the Pituitary gland which can goof up the normal cycling of the Gonadotropins which control the Ovary and your ovulation. If you do not ovulate you generally DO NOT have a menses (you may bleed from secretory endometrium -- but this is not menses -- it clots and smells different that true menses which does not clot and has its own characteristic odor! If you weight is normal; If your Pituitary hormones cycle normally; If your ovaries respond to these hormones normally -- then you should have fairly regular menses each month. (Normal cycle menses every 21 to 34 days) If you are having an irregular irregularity to you menses think hormone problem) Such things as brain tumors, thyroid problems, inability of the lining of the uterus to respond to the hormones, early ovarian failure, lack of body fat, stress, etc., etc., can give amenorrhea - I would like to start with the 'stress' diagnosis because it is far more common that the others.
