alesse

I am a 41 year old healthy, average weight mother of two teenage children. I was given an Rx of alesse by my doctor to try. I have noticed an increase in PMS over the last few years, although my periods are regular and now only last for 2-3 days. My main concern is that I will gain weight with birth control pills. I was told that the alesse is the lowest dose birth control now available. Is the alesse as effective as the other pills, will it help with PMS and what is the possibility of weight gain ?

Thank you
