I am not familiar with calcium supplements causing joint pain and stiffness. However, bone pains, psychologic changes, osteopenia and abdominal pains are symptoms of hyperparathyroidism. Calcium supplements and Premarin are not sufficient to reverse the bone damaging effects of hyperparathyroidism.

If you do NOT have hyperparathyroidism, then you should definately continue Ca supplements, estrogen and consider adding alendronate (Tradename = Fosamax) to maintain bone strength.

Your physician can discuss alendronate and the evaluation for hyperparathyroidism with you.

Good Luck.
