ASCUS==atyp.cells of undetermined significance--reactive cells not dysplastic-may be seen in vaginitis/cervicitis,or more commonly in the normal cervix.Air drying a smear can produce changes that may lead to a difficult reading-not optimal.I tend to repeat an ASCUS smear in a premenopausal women,monogamous,no history of dysplasia,nonsmoker,with history of normal paps in 3 mos.
